Pregnancy Choices Training

Learn how to provide support and information through a greater understanding of pregnancy choices. This training explores the options available for pregnant people.

It will cover the issues and topics that people may experience when choosing to either continue or not continue with their pregnancy. This course will include a variety of guest speakers that are experts in their field.

Course Outline

The course covers the broad social and political issues as well as clinical options, incorporating cultural considerations into topics and resources.

Participants will:

  • discuss the global, national and local overview of unintended pregnancy
  • consider the cultural implications of pregnancy from an Aboriginal perspective
  • learn about reproductive coercion, family and domestic violence in the context of pregnancy
  • develop an awareness of contraception options available in Australia including emergency contraception
  • explore a broader understanding of abortion, counselling responses to pregnancy, antenatal and postnatal pathways.

Eligibility

The course is open to nurses, midwives, doctors, counsellors, community health workers, school counsellors, youth workers, Aboriginal Health Workers and any professional who may work with clients who are pregnant.
